The skies are getting grey, the weather’s getting colder and you’ve said goodbye to your summer wardrobe for the next six months. That’s right; we’re slowly but surely approaching holiday season. Time to start thinking about your Christmas outfits. Our Fashion Designer Thom gives you some stylish Christmas outfit options for 6 different occasions.
As I’m writing this, we still have a few different seasonal holidays that we can enjoy before we reach the big one. However, we can’t ignore the fact that with the blink of an eye Christmas season will be around the corner or as some call it: the most wonderful time of the year!
If you’re like me, planning your Christmas is always hectic, given all the social obligations and events that you have to attend. Obviously, these are all very nice gatherings and I don’t mind attending. However, choosing a perfect Christmas outfit for each event is the last thing on my mind. After last year’s whirlwind Christmas season, I’ve decided to plan ahead which will (hopefully) save me a lot of time when navigating my busy schedule. For each event, I’ve created a look that’ll perhaps help us both.
1. Christmas outfits for the office party
Let’s start off with one of the most important occasions. This one requires us to be happy, festive yet undeniably professional: the office Christmas party. Depending on your company, you could go for a super festive, over the top crazy Christmas look. But if you work in a more conservative environment, a more subtle approach may be appropriate.
Let’s say you work for a serious company with very serious coworkers. You’ll probably be on your best behavior while exchanging pleasantries with your manager and boss. This is the right time to make a lasting impression. To compliment your undeniable wit and charm, a great outfit can make you stand out from the crowd. This year, I think I’ll go for a classic look with a fun twist which will be memorable and fun without looking silly. A nice textured blazer with a button-down shirt, a nice pair of trousers and a smart shoe will definitely make a great Christmas outfit!
If your company is more laidback like mine, you might want to use this occasion to really show your fun side. This might be the only night a year that you actually get to drink a few beers with your boss and joke around with some coworkers so in this case, instead of opting for the ugly Christmas sweater, why not go for a Christmas suit? You’ll look professional (well… sort of) while spreading the holiday spirit and I can promise you that people will still be talking about it in January.
2. Christmas outfits for the family dinner
Not as tricky but even more important than the office party is the family Christmas dinner. Your loved ones have been looking forward to spending time together during the holidays. Depending on your family, you might have a fancy dinner. Other families enjoy a very relaxed dinner where everyone comes dressed in a casual way. Both are good but require a different strategy.
Say you have a fancy family dinner. Your mother or father has been in the kitchen for the past few days so it would be a nice gesture to dress up a little. In this case a velvet dinner jacket would be nice with a crisp white button-down shirt. If your family is really fancy, a bowtie would be a good idea.
If your dinner is more casual, you can basically wear anything festive and comfortable. However, it’s still nice to wear something smart to show your appreciation for the host or hostess. There’s many things you can do. Perhaps take your Christmas suit jacket and wear it with black trousers and a neat shirt for a smart casual Christmas outfit.
3. Christmas outfit for brunch/dinner with friends
One of the more relaxed events during the holiday season is the one where you can unwind and enjoy yourself with your closest friends. No need to please any parents or grandparents but just you and your friends enjoying each other’s company. For this one I’d take one of the previous Christmas outfits and just dress it down. Here. I’ve picked a dinner jacket and paired it with a soft sweater, some comfortable pants and a pair of sneakers. The jacket adds a sophisticated touch but paired with a casual outfit it feels a lot less stiff.
4 Christmas outfit for date night
When things get pretty hectic, it might be nice to try and get away from it all by spending some extra time with you girlfriend or boyfriend. Especially if you’ve been seeing a lot of friends and family which can be overwhelming for any relationship. By now your significant other has probably seen you dressed up a couple of times so now’s the perfect time to kick back and relax. ‘Tis the season to get cozy so you can do yourself a favor and dress really comfortable. A nice sweater with some jeans and nice shoes will work for dinner at a restaurant or a snug movie night at home.

5. Christmas outfit for a Christmas market
Let’s say you’ve already bought all your Christmas presents in advance (like the smart, responsible adult that you are). In case there’s some time to chill and enjoy yourself, you might want to visit a Christmas market. What I like about these markets is the mulled wine, the smell of bonfires and the feeling of a good old-fashioned Christmas. This will probably be an outdoor event, so it’s important to keep warm. If it’s a nice sunny day, you could pair a wool jacket with a hoodie and a hat. Complete the Christmas outfit with a pair of boots for that ultimate winter vibe.
6 Christmas outfit for a Christmas concert
Whether you’re singing yourself or planning on a night of listening, a Christmas concert is one of the fun ways to get into the holiday spirit. Singing Christmas carols in your town square will make you feel like you’re in a movie. Let’s say this is an outdoor even on a cold December night, you’ll want to wear a warm Christmas outfit. In this case the accessories are a key ingredient to conveying holiday vibes to the jolly townsfolk. Time to bundle up!

7. Christmas outfit for church
Last but not least, Church. This one actually depends entirely on you congregation. Going to church for the Christmas service is always a nice and special occasion. It is, after all, the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ! Happy birthday, dude. In honor of this, let’s look at some nice options for the perfect church Christmas outfit. You could be classy and opt for a black suit which is respectful and understated. You might want to jazz it up a little by wearing a fun Christmas tie or a patterned shirt. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, why not wear a burgundy suit?
